The self-organised community group Tactical Urbanistas and Camden Council have brought play and fun to Kentish Town through colourful, interactive street painting of hopscotch, snakes and ladders and polka dots.
The last few years have been tough for our high streets. The rise of online shopping and the closure of non-essential shops during the COVID-19 pandemic have created many challenges as well as opportunities to look at new ways to help our high streets grow.
Creating fun urban spaces
The Tactical Urbanistas want to create spaces that support people to socially distance and yet still have fun in the process. Over the last year they’ve created a number of colourful street designs across London.
Outside the Iceland shop in Kentish Town, the extended pavement was turned into a playful space where people of all ages – and even pets – have been making the most of the opportunity to have some fun while doing their shopping. Have a look at it in action on the Camden Council YouTube Channel.
